The 2023 Commencement of Sichuan University-Pittsburgh Institute was held on June 16th, 2023. Leadership from the University and the Institute, faculty and staff representatives, alumni representatives, and parent representatives attended the ceremony.
The opening speech was delivered by Professor Minking Chyu, Dean of SCUPI. He warmly welcomed the parents and expressed sincere congratulations to the Class of 2023 on their successful graduation. He also extended a warm welcome to the alumni representatives and encouraged the graduates to embrace the future and explore new possibilities.
Vice President of Sichuan University, Professor Leye Yao, congratulated the graduates and thanked the faculty and staff. He encouraged graduates to use their knowledge and skills to continue pursuing their dreams, remembering the value of hard work, determination, and perseverance to make a positive impact on the world.
Professor Ping-Chun Sui inspired and encouraged the graduates by telling the story of Steve Jobs, hoping that the students would always keep a humble attitude towards learning and have the courage to follow their own hearts and intuition.
SCUPI’s alumna, Elsie Wang, shared valuable experiences from her student life and career. She encouraged all graduates to say “Yes” to opportunities and challenges and wished them a bright future.
Professor Jiagang Wu, the Director of Sichuan University International Office, presented awards for the “Outstanding Senior Projects of Sichuan University-Pittsburgh Institute”. The honorees were Weiyi Zhao, Yujie Li, Xinyi Liu, Yuanye Dong, Beining Fu, Yunpu Zeng, and Zhichun Ye.
After the award session, the conferral ceremony began. Dean Minking Chyu, Assistant Dean Ye Li, and Associate Dean TZ Mai led the faculty representatives in conferring degrees.
Xiang Li delivered a speech as the graduate representative. He first reflected on his “SCUPI life” and expressed gratitude to the institute for providing multicultural classroom experiences and educational resources. Then, on behalf of all the graduates, he sincerely appreciated the professors who tirelessly imparted knowledge, the staff members who cared about the growth of students, and the parents who firmly supported their children’s dreams.
At the end of the ceremony, everyone watched the graduate video and the graduate performance together. The graduation ceremony ended successfully.
