Sichuan University<\/span><\/span>-Pittsburgh Institute (SCUPI)<\/span>\u00a0held <\/span><\/span>P<\/span>arent <\/span><\/span>M<\/span>eeting for <\/span><\/span>Class of<\/span>\u00a02022 <\/span><\/span>via online approach on March 26<\/span>th<\/span><\/sup>. <\/span><\/span>SCUPI leadership<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and representative staff members<\/span>\u00a0attended the meeting and gave detailed introduction <\/span><\/span>on<\/span>\u00a0the <\/span><\/span>Institute\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0teaching<\/span><\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0management, <\/span><\/span>training pattern<\/span>, student support, etc.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0The participating leadership and staff also addressed student-related questions raised by parents.<\/span>\u00a0The meeting was <\/span><\/span>hosted<\/span>\u00a0by <\/span><\/span>Jen <\/span>Yang, <\/span><\/span>Student Counsellor for Class of<\/span>\u00a02022.<\/span><\/span><\/p> The meeting kicked off by an opening remark, delivered by Professor Minking Chyu, Dean of SCUPI<\/span>. Dean <\/span><\/span>Chyu<\/span>\u00a0first welcomed <\/span><\/span>all of the<\/span>\u00a0parents and <\/span><\/span>presented<\/span>\u00a0the development and <\/span><\/span>mission<\/span>\u00a0of <\/span><\/span>SCUPI<\/span>. <\/span><\/span>He<\/span>\u00a0said that in the past few years, <\/span><\/span>the Institute<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>gained<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>remarkable reputation<\/span>\u00a0for <\/span><\/span>our<\/span>\u00a0educational quality and <\/span><\/span>student achievements<\/span>. One of the major advantages of the <\/span><\/span>Institute<\/span>\u00a0is that <\/span><\/span>we<\/span>\u00a0introduce the curriculum system, faculty and high-quality educational resources of world-class universities, and adopts an all-English teaching <\/span><\/span>approach<\/span>, which <\/span><\/span>are key to students\u2019 <\/span>English proficiency, <\/span><\/span>horizon of eyesight<\/span>, and integration with the world. It is <\/span><\/span>to our sincere hope<\/span>\u00a0that the <\/span><\/span>Class of 2022<\/span>\u00a0can <\/span><\/span>leverage <\/span>the <\/span><\/span>platform<\/span>\u00a0of the <\/span><\/span>Institute<\/span>\u00a0and move towards their <\/span><\/span>dreams<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t TZ Mai<\/span>, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and <\/span><\/span>Ye Li<\/span>, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, <\/span><\/span>gave brief presentation on<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>SCUPI<\/span>\u00a0teaching operation and student management<\/span><\/span>, respectively<\/span>. Dean Mai introduced <\/span><\/span>some of Institute\u2019s teaching mechanisms, including<\/span>\u00a0Office Hour<\/span><\/span>\u00a0and<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>c<\/span>ourse <\/span><\/span>quality round table,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>that serve<\/span>\u00a0to improve teaching <\/span><\/span>effectiveness<\/span>\u00a0and <\/span><\/span>learning<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>outcomes<\/span>. <\/span><\/span>H<\/span>e also emphasized the importance <\/span><\/span>of<\/span>\u00a0academic norms <\/span><\/span>and <\/span>integrity. Dean Li talked about the <\/span><\/span>Institute\u2019s care <\/span>on<\/span>\u00a0students’ mental health and academic pressure, <\/span><\/span>and called on<\/span>\u00a0parents <\/span><\/span>to<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>cooperate with the Institute over the issues above.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t Academic Administrator Ms. Mia Jia\u00a0analysed\u00a0the academic performance\u00a0of the 2022 students over Fall 2022. Ms.\u00a0Jia emphasized\u00a0the importance of academic performance\u00a0in the freshman year, and also reminded students to utilize learning resources like Office Hours or teaching assistants.<\/p> Career Advisor Ms. Rita Luosang introduced SCUPI learning resources\u00a0and\u00a0navigated around academic and employment advising service. She also gave suggestions on\u00a0freshman study, including all-round exploration, self-awareness, social practice, and language learning.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t Advisor from Office of Study Abroad Ms. Grace\u00a0Wang focused on\u00a0the application process of transfer study. Ms. Wang\u00a0emphasized academic performance\u00a0and language requirements, and recommended\u00a0early preparation for\u00a0TOEFL\/IELTS in freshmen and sophomore\u00a0year.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t Student Counselor\u00a0Ms. Jen Yang presented on student management and campus events. Starting from the basics\u00a0of the Class, Ms.\u00a0Yang gave introduction\u00a0in terms of academic assistance, behavioral norms, mental health, etc,.\u00a0Ms.\u00a0Yang also encouraged students to participate in a campus events.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
